The sophists: masters of arete in the greek paideia

The phenomenon of sophistry in ancient Greece represents a fundamental moment in the intellectual life of the Greek, especially because it is an effect of the emergence and development of democracy in Athens. This article aims to show the sophistic movement of the Athens of the V century and especially its implications in teaching the political virtue, as part of the paideia of sophistry. These general aspects will be accurately exemplified by presenting the thought of one of the most known sophists of his time: Protagoras of Abdera.
