Abstract

This article shows the results of the investigation “Self-medication and its implications on health and well-being: case study of the Doce de Octubre Hospital Unit in Medellín, Colombia”, which aimed to carry out an analysis of self-medication to 156 older adult patients between 60 and 95 years, attended by emergencies, who are part of the group with the highest health risk for self-medication. The results suggest that most people are unaware of the risks of self-medication, are not aware of the health implications, and generally go to the pharmacy to purchase medications to mitigate health problems.
