Ethics policies and best practices
Responsibilities of the editor. The editor of the Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Sociales is in charge of selecting the articles that will be included in the annual volumes of the journal. For this purpose, the editor is governed by the code of conduct of this publication. The selection of articles will be guided by their academic level and thematic relevance, and in this sense, discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic origin or religious or political inclinations of those who submit their manuscripts will never be considered as a selection criterion. However, the editor has the possibility to discuss decisions regarding the selection of articles made by other organs of the publication, always under the criteria of quality of the texts in the field of social science research. In relation to the authors, the editor is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of the decisions made about their articles, and in this sense, will only communicate with the authors, and never with people outside the process, about the arbitrations. Finally, the editor will expressly avoid managing articles that derive in conflicts of interest as a result of any possible connection with them, in order to maintain transparency in the editing and publication process.
Responsibilities of reviewers. As a fundamental part of the publication process, reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of the manuscripts sent to them and, in this sense, avoid sharing the material to be refereed with third parties. It is essential that they maintain objectivity and neutrality when formulating their criticisms of the manuscripts, above all, these must be based on reasonable arguments. Reviewers are free to support the editor and the author to raise, with their suggestions, the academic quality of the texts they have reviewed. It is also their responsibility to refrain from using for their own benefit the material to be refereed, and in the same line, to avoid being part of evaluation processes from which a conflict of interest may arise. Finally, reviewers are expected to comply with the time allotted for refereeing and to inform the editor of their ability to review the text they are invited to review in a timely and appropriate manner.
Responsibilities of the authors. They must abide by the rules of publication and the code of ethics of our journal. According to the above, it is required that their manuscripts are original, unpublished and that they are not in the process of evaluation in another journal. As part of a community of researchers, your texts must be governed by procedures that allow the development of your discipline in the scientific order, that is, your texts must provide truthful and reliable data, complete references and sources and the development of the topics in such an order that other researchers can corroborate, discuss or support what is exposed in them. Given the above, false or erroneous statements will not be tolerated by our publication. Manuscripts submitted must acknowledge the authorship of the persons who participated in their construction and writing, and in this sense, both main authors and co-authors must be included in the text and have consented to and reviewed the information to be submitted to the Journal. Authors must respect the integrity of the communities that participate in their research and guarantee the presentation of the formats that account for their voluntary and dignified participation. Likewise, the data on the sources of funding of their research must be transparent. Finally, the author has the commitment to immediately inform the editor of any type of error or inaccuracy that has been published in his/her own research.
Procedure for settling disputes arising from unethical behavior. Anyone making a complaint is requested to identify, before claiming to engage in behavior that contravenes the ethics of our publication, the nature of the misconduct and the evidence to prove it, and then proceed to elevate his or her complaint to the editor of our journal.
