Abstract

Aim: To deepen understanding of the role of teacher motivation in managing projects that focus on the prevention of psychoactive
substance use and violence in schools. Method: analytical tools of grounded theory were employed to analyze the experiences
of twelve participants. The research team undertook eight individual interviews and a focus group with four teachers
who completed the diploma. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed in an excel matrix from which 502 (five hundred
and two) codes, 11 descriptive categories, four analytical categories and four acting categories were obtained. Outcomes:
During their participation in the graduate course at the educational institutes where they work as teachers, the participants
perceived a lack of positive environmental enhancers Some negative enhancers identified were: the large number of documents
and activities proposed by the diploma, as well as the short time frames set for submission and the lack of available
time for further training. However, participants have a strong intrinsic motivation to believe that training and strengthening
their knowledge in the area of project management for prevention can have positive results on the personal development of
their students.
