The editorial project of the Ciencia y Academia Journal has been growing exponentially. This particular issue informs the entire university community that the journal—open to everyone in any university in the country or the world—has received, in this last semester of 2024, three important indexations: ERIH PLUS (European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences), LatinRev (Latin American Network of Academic Journals in Social Sciences and Humanities), and LATINDEX (Regional Online Information System for Scientific Journals of Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Portugal). Increasing the visibility of our publications promotes the exchange of knowledge and practices across all contexts that require our open academic products.
The sixth edition also highlights the continuous work of Universidad Católica Luis Amigó over the past forty years in social, cultural, ecological, economic, environmental, and artistic transformation, contributing to the city of Medellín. This great higher education center supports its inhabitants and vital spaces, expanding their anthro-vision—a human-centered perspective on life and its systems of relationships, fostering interaction with everything that offers the possibility of becoming a source of vital hope.
A commune and a neighborhood are some of the cases where science becomes public knowledge, thanks to the work of researchers within the institution. Delivering research results, findings, and program impacts is the true social purpose of science. Comuna 9 Buenos Aires and the La Iguaná neighborhood in the Los Colores sector of Medellín are contexts favored by the university. Its intervention in these territorial areas dates back over 20 years. Half of the institution’s existence has been dedicated to developing and addressing the needs of these communities—offering psycho-geographical, environmental, and entrepreneurial solutions to urban conflicts, and promoting social reintegration through the pedagogy of Fray Luis Amigó and Ferrer, which focuses on re-educating for life. Throughout 2024, this journal has dedicated its writings—constituting the historical memory of the university—to celebrating the institution’s forty years of service, filled with recollections and milestones for society.
The content of the sixth edition interweaves concepts, constructs, and social and cultural interventions centered on the human being and its interconnected systems. Theoretical and conceptual positions are presented on aspects related to human behavior, interaction styles, and competencies acquired for social and professional engagement—rooted in humanization and the relationship with living ecosystems provided by nature.
The conceptualization and relationship between soft skills for life and generic competencies is a fascinating clarification of concepts. These are often presented in different stages of human education, sometimes mistakenly treated as scientific synonyms without empirical evidence, when in fact, they define different behavioral frameworks for distinct aspects.
Contrasting the Aesthetic and Ethical Stages in Relation to the Category of Choice, with the aim of interpreting Sophocles’ Antigone and Kierkegaard’s adaptation of this tragedy, resulted in A philosophical reflection on the aesthetic and ethical stages in relation to the ancient tragic and the modern tragic, in Kierkegaard.

The meaning of living with schizophrenia: an existential view disseminates research using a qualitative approach to interpret subjective reality, uncovering personal meanings and perceptions through a descriptive case study that explores the experience of an individual diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Mental health and addictions: perspectives from a research group at Universidad Católica Luis Amigó offers a perspective on the intersection of anthropology and vision regarding both concepts.
The consumer and the perception of the business model of convenience stores in the city of Medellín identifies consumer perceptions of the business model of these stores in Medellín compared to traditional neighborhood stores commonly found while walking through local communities.
Latin American theology: evolution and influence on social policies presents a study exploring how Latin American theology has influenced the development of social policies. Through case analysis, the study evaluates how theological principles have impacted the formulation of initiatives in various countries across the region.
An Investigative-Creation Project for the Social Appropriation of Knowledge is presented by Professor Paolo Villalba Storti, a faculty member of the Social Communication program at the Faculty of Communication, Advertising, and Design at Universidad Católica Luis Amigó. Professor Villalba showcases a fascinating investigation that encourages the creation of alternative products expressing a connection between the world of art and science: Disruptive Aesthetics from the Margins: Outsider and Autism.
The sixth edition of the journal invites all individuals interested in disseminating scientific and academic knowledge to join this editorial project. Its vision is to integrate and complement all areas of knowledge at Universidad Católica Luis Amigó with culture, communities, territories, social actors, and the development of science with external validity.
